CCGA-P Unit 20 - About Us

We are the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Pacific Region, Unit 20, "Salish Sea".

We are a Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit supported by a group of unpaid volunteers and our fundraising arm, the Salish Sea Marine Rescue Society (a non-profit organisation), based on Pender Island, BC, Canada.

We are a small but dedicated group who donate our time for free to help keep people safe on the water.  We have 3 teams, each consisting of a coxswain and crew.  Each team is on call 24/7 every 3rd week.

Whatever the time, day or night, if you are in trouble on the water, we might be called out to help you.

We are also involved with checking and maintaining our Rescue boat and equipment.  We meet regularly for training, both on-water and in the classroom, and to discuss and attend to the ongoing business of both the unit and society.

Our boat is based at Port Browning, North Pender Island, and we can be tasked to cover anywhere in the Southern Gulf Islands.

Our SAR boat "Auxiliary 20",  is a Titan 249XL T-Top, an aluminum RIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable), powered by twin Yamaha 200HP motors, which can get us to an incident at up to around 40 knots, depending on conditions.  Equiped with state of the art navigation, radar and communications.  Our crews undergo regular ongoing training to master the vessel and equipment.
